Training and education is not exclusively for the young! If, as an adult, you are thinking that you want to return to study either to brush up on existing skills or potentially develop new ones, then we have courses for you. You’ll be learning alongside other like-minded people with entry onto many of them needing no formal qualifications: your previous experiences and achievements will generally be sufficient.
What is an adult?
Within the further education sector (that is, any course up to Level 3, or any course that is not linked to our university-provision) the term ‘adult’ usually refers to an individual aged over 19 on the 31st August in the academic year the course commences. For our university-level programmes, a ‘mature student’ is classed as individuals over the age of 21.
Our courses
If you lack the formal qualifications for a university-level programme? Access programmes are designed on giving you the oral, written and study skills to build your confidence and prepare you for the next step.
If your lack of a formal GCSE in English, maths or science is holding you back, or you just want to help support your teenagers with their exams, then we offer part-time evening GCSE classes. Plus, if you’re aged 19 and over and previously hold a GCSE grade D or lower in English or maths, you would be exempt from paying any fees for these courses.
Aimed at speakers whose first language is not English, but who are living in or trying to settle in the UK, these 10 week courses develop the spoken, written, reading and listening skills.
Financial Support available
As an adult, the advanced learner loan can help you with the costs of studying. The college also has access to a range of other financial support packages, such as the Care to Learn scheme for childcare costs.
