Level 1 Diploma in Engineering Technologies

To provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the practices and processes of engineering technologies. It takes a hands-on approach to engineering training.

You will study nine units where you will look at the engineering environment, techniques and principles. These will include practical skills of machining, cutting, forming, assembling and joining engineering materials, mechanical and electrical maintenance, maths and science in engineering, working with customers, computer-aided drawing and project planning. This course is made up of practical projects and class-based sessions that will prepare you for a career in engineering. There will be practical assessments and externally set examinations.

Supported work experience will be arranged with guidance from your tutor.

English and maths are an important part of the course, whether at functional skills or GCSE level.

Progress to Level 2 Diploma in Engineering and Technology or Intermediate Apprenticeship in Engineering.

Entry requirements

Academic achievement of four GCSEs grades 3 – 1 or D - G with English and maths minimum of grade 3. Science is an advantage but not essential.

Students must have an interest in theory and practical work and be confident they want a career in the industry.
