Level 1 NVQ Diploma in Skills for Hospitality & Catering

Equip yourself with the practical skills for work in hospitality and catering.

As part of your introduction to the catering industry, you will learn important skills that employers look for, such as:

• Customer service
• Food and drink service
• Menu planning
• Food preparation and cooking
• Introduction to food commodities
• Food safety
• Working in a team
• Health and safety in the workplace

We will show you how to work in our professional kitchen and restaurant to understand how the Catering and Hospitality industry works. The course includes work experience and maths and English functional skills or GCSE. You will need to purchase equipment and clothing from an external supplier. All course costs will be discussed at interview.

You could progress on to a relevant Level 2 Catering course.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at Grades D-G/3-1, including English and maths at minimum Grade E/2.

You must have an interest in catering and/or successful completion of the college’s Entry 3 Catering course. It is advised you also attend a skills assessment day for your chosen course level.
