How to Write a Personal Statement

Just the words “personal statement” can be daunting and induce feelings of nervousness, but what exactly is it and how do you write one?

Your personal statement supports your application to a university or college, whether you’re applying for a course after school through Kent Choices, or applying for a university-level course at a university or college through UCAS.

Your personal statement is your chance to shine and tell the university or college about your skills, experience and passion that you have for your chosen course. It’s a chance to write about YOU.

Sometimes, writing your personal statement might feel like you should leave it until the end of your application, however it’s important to properly think about it, draft it and get it perfect. Don’t leave it until the very end.

Remember, it’s your chance to showcase yourself.

We’ve put together some videos and advice from UCAS and Kent Choices to help you write your personal statement.

If you need any help, our careers team are here for you. You can email them, call them on 01233 743 100 (and ask for careers), or find them next to the Student Support team.
