On the 3rd December, two of our students, Robyn Bailey and Kaya Cook, both studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design, attended the gala evening to celebrate the end of the hugely successful Snowdogs Discover Ashford art trail.
Robyn and Kaya, who designed and painted a pup for Pilgrims Hospices and transcripted two winning designs for main sponsors Motorline, attended the glitzy event, held at the Ashford International Hotel, with tutor Rob Forsyth.
Every Snowdog from the trail, including the College’s own Made In Ash-Hound, was sold at auction on the night. Officiated by TV auctioneers Michael Hogben (of Bargain Hunt fame) and Alison Chapman (ITV’s The Secret Dealer and Dickinson's Real Deal), the auction saw high bids both from the room and online, raising a total of £142,000 for charity.
Our two students rubbed shoulders with the likes of John 'Teflon' Sims, the artist behind the famous 2-Tone record covers and Emily Firmin, daughter of Bagpuss and Clangers creator Peter, who watched her and her late father's dog, Bagdogg, sell for £9,000.
Our Made in Ash-Hound dog was bought by Ashford Borough Council, who will be using him, along with two other dogs they purchased, in promotions across the calendar year throughout the borough – making appearances at opening ceremonies and launches, visiting schools and being available to the public for events such as Create Festival.
We are pleased to see that Made in Ash-Hound is currently stationed outside the superb new Ashford Picturehouse Cinema with several other dogs, awaiting his next assignment!
