On Friday 16th Feb, Ashford College welcomed around 100 attendees through its doors to a Jobs Fair organised by local MP Damian Green and sponsored by HR GO Recruitment, and Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.
A wide range of employers were represented at the free event, including Network Rail, Barclays Bank, The National Citizen Service, John Lewis, Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Police and Premier Foods.
Attendees received expert advice and were able to discuss what potential employers were looking for when recruiting for a diverse range of roles - from full-time, part-time and apprenticeships.
The Job Centre was on hand to offer a job interview and CV-writing session and Barclays Bank conducted a fraud and financial savings workshop.
Mr. Green, said: “I was really pleased that so many people turned up looking for a new job or an apprenticeship. It was good to see young people wanting work, and also a significant number of older workers testing what is out there for them. Ashford has a buzzing labour market, as shown by the range of employers who attended from both the private and public sectors. I hope to hold a bigger and even better Jobs Fair next year.”
Deputy Principal and CEO of the Hadlow Group, Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, added: “We were delighted to host this event, which has obviously had a fantastic response from the public. Damian has been very supportive of the College and instrumental in the development of the new Ashford facilities. We are committed to offering employment opportunities and enhancing the local skills base through the provision of high quality work experience and vocational training. We want all people in Ashford to engage and progress to achieve the best they can. We are able to significantly increase these opportunities by working with our constituency MP on events such as these.”
